How to Choose Your Perfect Wedding Cake
At Cote How
Your wedding cake is more than just a cake!
Your wedding cake is a statement piece on your wedding day, and in addition to being a delicious treat, it plays a huge part in wedding traditions and symbolism. A wedding cake is a decorative detail that creates a lasting memory, taking pride of place in your wedding photographs. The traditional cutting of the wedding cake is not to be missed, but remember not to pull the knife back out if you’re superstitious…it’s believed to be bad luck!
Keeping the love local...
At Cote How, we’re all about shopping local and keen to support small businesses wherever possible. As a small wedding venue, we enjoy working with passionate, owner-operated, artisanal companies that provide exceptional customer service.
Our cakes are made in Grasmere and delivered fresh the morning of your wedding, so you don’t need to worry about transporting them!

Choosing Your wedding cake flavours
When choosing a cake flavour, we love all the classic combinations.
Our wonderful wedding cake flavours are:
- Lemon cake with lemon curd filling
- Lemon and Blueberry
- White Chocolate and Raspberry
- Orange and Raspberry
- Vanilla and Strawberry – a classic Victoria Sponge
- Chocolate Cake with chocolate ganache filling
- Elderflower
Don’t they all sound absolutely delightful? Choosing the perfect one for your special day is a hard decision!
Cote how All-Inclusive Packages
Our 6-hour and Weekend All-Inclusive options have a wedding cake included as part of your package.
This includes the semi-naked wedding cake style featured above. This style of cake particularly suits Cote How as a venue, complementing the rustic and romantic feel of the barn. If you prefer, however, your cake can be fully covered in buttercream. You are welcome to bring your own personalised cake topper on the day if you wish. All cakes provided by us include the use of our cake stand and knife.
Choosing your wedding cake size
At Cote How, we specialise in small, intimate weddings. We offer two cake sizes, depending on the size of your guest list.
Generally speaking, a single-tier cake typically serves up to 16 people. A 2-tier cake serves up to 24 people.
If you prefer to add a second tier to a single-tier cake, we can arrange this for an additional charge. (You can take any leftover cake with you, as it keeps for up to 5 days.)
Gluten-free and vegan cakes are available in a range of flavours. However, although recommended precautions are taken, please be aware that all our in-house cakes are made in a non-allergen-free kitchen.
Choosing and Enjoying Your Wedding Cake
When choosing your cake flavour, some couples opt for something they think will appeal to most of their guests. But there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be a little bit selfish and make sure it’s your favourite too – it’s your day after all!
At Cote How, we offer the option to serve your cake as your third course, ensuring all your guests enjoy a slice.
To serve your cake as dessert, we always include fresh fruit and cream, presenting it as a gateau for an elevated third course.

Thank you to our recommended photographers for sharing their Cote How wedding photographs, including Tiree Dawson, Jo Greenfield and Jenna Carpenter. For an interesting look at the traditions behind wedding cakes, read our guest blog.
