Never a dull moment at Cote How 2022 has begun with a bang. We spent the winter months giving the whole wedding venue a facelift, with a whole new look downstairs and the addition of our “Getting Ready Room” upstairs – We are still looking for the right terminology for naming this room, any suggestions would be gratefully received! More on the renovation in next week’s blog…
Then we welcomed Dan into the team in early February and have been busy introducing him to our lovely couples and showing him the way we roll here at Cote How. He is very excited for the wedding season to begin proper. You can read all about Dan in his first blog here

WE Say goodbye to Sophie

Sophie has been my Angel this last couple of years and we are so so sad to see her go, but new and exciting pastures lay ahead for Sophie and we are going to miss her greatly, as I am sure many of you lovely couples will too.
Sophie has been a valued member of our tiny wedding venue team since joining us in July 2020, and has taught us as much as we have taught her, together we have had some great times, and bonded for life…
But rest assured your wedding planning journey will not end with Sophie, as she has been passing on all of her skills and knowledge to our new Wedding Operations Manager Rebecca, who we will introduce below.

We wish Sophie the very best of luck in her new life ventures and leave you to read a few words from Sophie herself…

in SOPHIE's words...

Working at Cote How has been wonderful and I will be forever thankful for the opportunity that Caroline and Steve gave me here. I have loved my time here and learnt so much, I have grown in confidence in myself and have really enjoyed my role in the team and the responsibility I was given. It almost feels like a second home with the number of couples who assume I’m part of the family and live here myself – imagine waking up to that view every day! As you can imagine, both Caroline and Steve are fab bosses and wonderful people who took me under their wing as more than ‘just an employee’. I am going to live in South Manchester with my boyfriend, Scott. Manchester will be a big change to being in the Lakes, but sometimes big change is good!

I am sad to be missing lots of the small intimate weddings I have been a part of planning alongside all our lovely couples, watching your wedding day come to life is a wonderful part of the job. I am excited to see all the lovely pictures that I am sure will appear on the Cote How Instagram pages. Rebecca and Dan are both wonderful additions to the Cote How Team and alongside Caroline and Steve your wedding is in great hands from start to finish.

Meet Rebecca...

We are really pleased to introduce Rebecca, who will be joining our little wedding venue team from early April as our Wedding Operations Manager. She has been doing lots of homework alongside Sophie to get on board with the weddings and learn all about our lovely couples and I know she is very excited to meet you all and get stuck in.
Hopefully next month you will be getting to know Rebecca and hopefully reading her first blog, as I am sure she will have lots to say to keep you all up to date on all things Cote How!

in REBECCA's words...

I am incredibly honoured to be joining the team at Cote How as Wedding’s Operations Manager. It will be very sad to see Sophie leave, but we have been spending lots of time together and Sophie has been teaching me everything she knows, so that all of our lovely couples are not affected and along with Caroline, Steve and our new assistant Dan all future wedding bookings remain in very safe hands. With a wealth of knowledge in hospitality and event management and as a local and keen walker, I have often marvelled at Cote How and it’s stunning location, and always thought to myself, what a beautiful place to get married! There really isn’t a more perfect place in the whole of the Lake District and I hope my experience and knowledge will help Cote How continue to grow and flourish and I am very excited for the future.

in DAN's words...

Oh, boy, have we been busy! There have been so many changes too! I am so sad that Sophie is leaving, she has taught me so much since I started. I wish her all the best. But I am looking forward to working with and learning from Rebecca!

Since my last blog, I have been helping the team prepare the wedding venue for the main season; this mainly involved painting everything you can see. Now everywhere has had a lick of paint, even me! The venue looks fantastic again, ready to welcome our amazing couples.

An exciting project we have been working on is the wildflower meadow on the hill, hopefully, cross your fingers! the seeds will grow and we will have an amazing summer display! Now we are almost finished with the venue preparation; I am really looking forward to meeting all our wonderful couples and sharing their special day. Now I have finished my first year at Uni studying Chartered Management, it’s all hands on just in time for the wedding season! I have really enjoyed the first year, it has been very challenging, but I look forward to the second year in September! That’s all from me for now, but stay posted for my next blog.

Not forgetting Steve - Of course...

I know that some of you think Steve is imaginary… but he works equally hard (usually behind the scenes) and he has worked incredibly hard these past few months with all the renovating jobs I have been forcing upon him!
I will leave Steve to explain what he has been up to this winter…

in Steves words...

Christmas seems a long time ago now, a blur of changes, upgrades and general getting readiness ahead of the new season. In reality, our season never really stopped, and we’ve rolled from the 21 season straight into the 22 season with hardly a breather in between. Caroline has done her best to keep the cardboard recycling plant going over the last few months and the amazon driver is now considered an integral part of the team. For me, well I’ve done a lot of unboxing and am considering a new career as an Ikea consultant due to my excellent skills in attaching legs and assembling furniture. Since Christmas we’ve redecorated 4 rooms in the house, I’ve made new panelling for the house bar, changed lights, removed a sink, hung very heavy mirrors, repainted the barn bar and dismantled what used to be a green house until storm Arwen had its way. On the subject of storm Arwen, I’ve chopped up four fallen trees (one was an ornamental cherry – big sob), and we had four sections of roof replaced. The garden has had a little bit of a breather over the last few months, but its in my sights once again and will be getting a good scarifying, trim and tidy in the next few days. Dan and I have also thrashed the hillside within an inch of its life in preparation for wildflower seeding, which is a bit of an experiment that we hope will add extra colour and wildlife to the barn area over the summer months. Today a new mower arrived, and I’ve ceremoniously done its ‘unboxing’ in the pouring rain this morning. It’ll get its first outing in the next couple of days and will hopefully make the 24,000 weekly mowing steps a little easier on my aging legs.

Looking ahead...

As we head into the new season we have exciting and sad times ahead. Dan joined us about a month ago and brings new energy with fresh legs and young enthusiasm, while Rebecca who joins us in a couple of weeks’ time will bring a steady hand to proceedings and more new ideas. On a sad note, Sophie who has been the goddess of organisation over the last two years will be leaving us shortly for new and exciting challenges outside the county. We wish her well and would like to publicly thank her for all her hard work during an extremely challenging two years.

Goodbye Bess...

I know that many of you may not be aware, but we lost our beloved Bessis Boo in February after a long battle with cancer.
Many of you may not have met her, as the dogs were usually kept behind closed doors, but often tried to escape as they are just socialites!
Bess leaves us with heaviness in our hearts and her brother Alfie who seems lost without her too. She was a huge part of our family.
