Intimate Wedding at Cote How

in the Lake District

A Valentine's Visit to Our INTIMATE Lake District Wedding Venue

We first met Natasha and Darren in the spring, when they were escaping the Essex hustle for a little Lake District downtime. They popped in on Valentine’s Day — which seemed quite serendipitous! From the moment we all settled down in front of the fire to chat, Natasha’s energy and creativity were infectious. She’d already spent ages thinking about her perfect wedding day — and Darren clearly adored her. He wanted every detail to be just right for her. They were after a bespoke, intimate wedding with close family: modern and high-end, yet still relaxed, with the kind of understated romantic vibe that makes the Lake District an incredible wedding destination. We couldn’t wait to get planning!

Wedding Morning Magic

The date was set just five months out, which isn’t much, but Natasha and Darren are the kind of couple who make things happen. They were a pleasure to work with, and flew through their planning, ticking boxes and making decisions like pros. Before we knew it, July arrived, and the day was finally here. We’d had a week of unsettled weather — thundery showers and grey skies — but just as Natasha arrived with her Mum after breakfast, patches of blue started peeking through.

There’s something about a wedding morning that never gets old: lugging bags upstairs, carrying ‘the dress’ from the car, and getting ready for that first big reveal. We left the girls to settle into the Beauty Suite with their stylists and a glass of chilled bubbly and headed down to the barn to meet the florist.

Wedding Florals - Inspired by the Lakes

Natasha had a clear vision for her flowers — she’d mentioned from day one that she loved thistles and eucalyptus — and her palette of powder blue, creamy whites, and soft greens worked beautifully with the lakes and meadows around us. Natasha chose beautiful statement flower meadows for the aisle, and dainty bud vases, filled with hydrangeas, agapanthus, cow parsley, and pops of deeper blue from sea holly and delphiniums. The table looked beautiful – simple and elegant in classic blue and white.

Back in the house, Natasha was totally in her element. She and Peter, their photographer, had an instant rapport — Peter has a mischievous streak, but Natasha was more than a match for him! At times, it was hard to tell who was directing whom during the photoshoot, and it was lovely to see Natasha so relaxed during her stunning ‘getting ready’ photos.

When Style & Music Hit the Right NotE

Just before half past one, Darren arrived with the rest of the family. He looked sharp in a midnight-blue three-piece suit and black patent shoes — classic but with a modern edge. Outside, Naomi, their violinist, was playing on the terrace while guests sipped drinks from the bar. Natasha loves the sound of a string quartet, but for such a small wedding, a solo violinist was just the right fit — elegant and perfectly in tune with a small, intimate wedding celebration.

A meaningful Moment

While the registrars chatted with Darren, Natasha shared a quiet moment upstairs with her dad — one of those little pauses in the day that ends up meaning everything. Her dress was something else: layers of soft tulle and hundreds of tiny pearls, with a cathedral veil that caught the light beautifully. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of scented stocks, sea holly, baby blue delphiniums and dainty astilbe.

Ceremony, Confetti and Cake

By the time Natasha walked down the aisle, the rain clouds had finally given up, and the fells were out in full show-off mode. The ceremony was simple, genuine, and so personal to them as a couple – just as they’d planned. Afterwards came a flurry of confetti and hugs before everyone gathered round to cut the cake. The whole afternoon just had that easy, happy rhythm that makes these intimate weddings beyond special.

Dinner And Dancing In Our Lakeland Barn

Natasha swapped her heels for trainers (a move we totally recommend) and they headed off with Peter to the caves, while the family relaxed on the terrace with drinks and canapés. An intimate wedding breakfast in the barn followed. Everyone was catered for individually, more like a private dinner party than a formal wedding reception. No long speeches or strict schedules, just a relaxed flow and easy conversation.

After coffee, Natasha and Darren had their first dance in the barn, and the wedding party drifted outside again. Their playlist came on, shoes came off, and the evening settled into that lovely in-between space where no one really wants it to end.

A Perfect End to Their Intimate Lake District Wedding

Darren and Natasha felt from the start how important it is to spend time together on their wedding day. As the guests said their goodbyes, the two of them slipped away to the lakeshore with Peter to catch the last of the daylight. Those golden-hour photos really do say it all.

Back from the lake, tired but happy, we handed them a key to the door and left them in peace. They stayed for a while, just the two of them, letting the day sink in with all its perfect moments – and remembering exactly why they chose a wedding day like this.
