Country Wedding in the Lake District
Jen and Matt's story
A dream, country wedding with the Feeling of home
We can remember our first telephone call with Jen. We were bowled over by her absolute certainty that Cote How was the perfect place for her dream country wedding with a relaxed, homely feel. Jen’s enthusiasm was infectious, and there was no doubt she and Matt would be joining our Cote How family!

English country charm meets tuscan romance
As keen travellers who love the Mediterranean lifestyle, Jen and Matt had already considered a romantic villa wedding in the sun, in Italy, but Cote How stole their hearts. Their Cotswolds home sits in beautiful woodland, and as Jen and Matt both grew up on farms, being close to nature makes them happy. Jen enjoyed Lake District walking holidays with her Mum, so Cote How reminded her of happy family holidays. It was meant to be.

Perfect weather for an outdoor countryside wedding
We couldn’t believe our luck. The weather was perfect for an English country wedding with the relaxed, sun-drenched charm of the Riviera. Views from the garden of rolling hills and turquoise sky brought a little slice of Tuscany to the Lakes.
Not many couples arrive together (on foot) before anyone else, but we loved how Jen and Matt arrived hand in hand from nearby Horseshoe Cottage in Rydal. Family and friends strolled across the meadow to drinks on the terrace – no standing on ceremony, just feeling part of something truly special.

Italian style meets boho chic
Jen and Matt’s styling was inspired! Romantic and utterly beautiful, without trying too hard. Jen’s full-length veil was held in place with a delicate crown, encrusted with tiny flowers. Layers of soft, flowing skirts were a subtle nod to the boho-chic, Mediterranean style. Matt’s cream linen suit and open-necked shirt wouldn’t have looked out of place in an Italian vineyard. Jen carried a wildflower bouquet, country wedding style, with sunflowers along the aisle.

outdoor ceremony on the barn terrace
Jen and Matt tied the knot under a blossom canopy outside the barn, framed by the Rydal Valley fells. For nature lovers, the setting doesn’t come more perfect than this. Close family and friends joined in the celebration – so much love and joy! The afternoon slipped by in the sunshine, as guests enjoyed a grazing table ‘al fresco’ and wandered down to the lakeshore. Who needs the Italian Riviera?

Room with a view - the stunning rydal valley
These gorgeous wedding portraits of Jen and Matt barefoot on the stepping stones in Rydal Water capture them as a couple. You can see their close connection to each other and the landscape. They’re the kind of images that linger in your memory, just like their amazing wedding day! It was so relaxed, personal, and full of heart. Everyone felt included and a little bit ‘transported’, as though they’d all gone on holiday together, just for a day. Jen and Matt’s Cote How wedding was the best of both worlds. We loved the charm of a country wedding blended with the spirit of a Mediterranean escape. And the very best thing? They didn’t have to jet off on a plane to do it.
