Small Lake District Winter Weddings

Small Lake District Winter Weddings

We feel so very privileged at Cote How to witness many small and intimate weddings. It seems that the trend for smaller weddings will continue into 2024 as the economic climate shows no signs of easing anytime soon.
As our wedding calendar does tend to fill up quickly over the summer months, many couples are opting for small, ‘off-peak’ weddings too, as there are so many benefits to a ‘low season’ celebration. In this blog, we celebrate the magic of Micro!

the magic of micro

Pronounced “hooga”,  hygge is about “taking time away from the daily rush to be together with people you care about – or even by yourself – to relax and enjoy life’s quieter pleasures.” We’ve had many reviews from lovely couples describing their Cote How weddings as ‘Hygge Weddings’. They ooze warmth, charm, and a relaxed nurturing vibe.

Leander and Daniel shared their thoughts with us about their special Winter Hygge Wedding:
“Whilst Cote How accommodates many types of weddings and all year round, we wanted something in winter as we enjoy the colder months and wanted the Hygge feeling with a roaring fire and fun festivities… and to say they delivered, is an understatement. It honestly was a case of showing up on the day and everything was done for us to an immaculate and beautiful standard.”

Quality over quantity

Micro weddings by nature are smaller, allowing for a more intimate and meaningful experience. Couples can focus on their closest friends and family, enjoying a real connection with each guest.

Late Autumn through to late Spring is considered the off-peak season for weddings, which means that venues and suppliers may be more readily available, giving you more flexibility in booking your preferred location, accommodation, and professionals, such as photographers.

With fewer guests, couples can invest more in the overall quality of the experience. Higher-end services, such as an exclusive-use venue, and fine dining can be more easily prioritised.

A feast for the senses

The low season provides a unique and cozy atmosphere that can be beautifully incorporated into your wedding theme. Snow-covered landscapes, warm candlelight, and richly coloured decor create a magical setting for the celebration. Evergreen branches, pinecones, and winter flowers create a tactile, textured scheme with a lux feel.

Winter-inspired menus and warm beverages can add a cosy festive touch to the celebration. Mulled wine, hot chocolate and treats laced with warm spices such as ginger and cinnamon make everyone feel welcomed and cared for.

personalised planning

Planning a micro wedding is generally less stressful and time-consuming than organising a larger event. This can be particularly advantageous for couples with very busy lives due to work and family commitments.  The planning process can be far more enjoyable with a small, intimate affair.

A smaller guest list provides the perfect opportunity to personalise the wedding experience, with couples creating a wedding ‘experience’ that reflects their personalities and relationship. Handwritten notes, custom vows or readings, and individualised favors or gifts become more feasible with fewer guests.

small and perfectly formed

Guests often remember and cherish the unique and intimate moments of a micro wedding, which are harder to create with a larger, more impersonal event. With a smaller guest list, couples may feel more empowered to include only their closest family and friends, creating a more inclusive and supportive environment without the family dramas associated with big weddings.

It’s important to note that the benefits of a micro wedding depend on individual preferences and priorities. Some couples may prefer the grandeur of a large celebration, while others find more value in the intimacy and simplicity of a micro wedding.

small is sustainable

Smaller events typically have a lower environmental impact as they generate less waste and consume fewer resources. Couples can allocate their budget more selectively, choosing local, artisan suppliers with a more sustainable ethos.

A smaller wedding party will mean fewer out-of-town guests, reducing travel-related impact (and expenses!) for both the couple and their guests.

fabulously photogenic

Winter weddings offer picturesque photo opportunities with snow-covered landscapes and soft natural light. The beauty of a winter backdrop can result in stunning and memorable wedding photographs.

Whilst a low-season micro wedding may not be suitable for everyone, those who choose this option often appreciate the intimacy, unique atmosphere, and cost-effective nature of these celebrations.
