Winter Elopement Wedding
IN THE Lakes

By SOPHIE DEAN
Short notice wedding
Jo and Fred have been together for almost ten years and have wanted to marry for a long time. Jo and Fred contacted us in September to arrange their intimate elopement with us at Cote How, hoping to get married before the end of 2021! They wanted a perfect Winter elopement wedding, and we had a date that suited them.

and relax...
They travelled up from their home in the south and stayed at The Salutation in Ambleside. They even had their hot tub in their hotel room, which they made the most of relaxing in! Winter weddings are definitely on the increase, along with elopement weddings. The advantages of a Winter elopement wedding are primarily that the Lake District is quieter in Winter, giving you more options for accommodation and places to eat.

What style flowers would you choose?
The couple had requested a wildflower-style bouquet and buttonhole with blues and purples incorporated as a colour theme, which was a lovely touch as the colours had sentimental value to Jo and Fred and reminded them of their loved ones.

Winter elopement wedding day
On the day Jo and Fred arrived for their winter elopement wedding just after Tiree. They both looked great. Jo had her aunt’s coat on for her “something old” it was gorgeous long black velvet and looked great with her wedding dress. The couple sat in the leather armchairs in the front room while waiting for the registrars to do their interviews- the interviews are nothing to worry about. All the Cumbria registrars are very friendly. The purpose of the discussion is to ensure they have all the correct information.

An emotional ceremony
The ceremony was emotional, to say the least. Elopement weddings are incredibly emotional. Jo and Fred had written their vows for their winter elopement wedding. You could tell from the emotion in the room how much this meant to them. I don’t think either of them expected to feel so emotional as they were very relaxed beforehand. Writing your vows is optional, but it is always a lovely touch. The ceremony was beautiful, and Jo ad Fred brought tears to the eyes of everyone in the room!

Time for a walk
After the ceremony, they took a moment to relax with their prosecco and take in what had just happened… they were now Mr and Mrs! Tiree then took them on a bit of adventure down to Rydal Water and up to the caves to get some pictures of the two of them. They got some great photos, some dramatic ones in the caves and on the edge of Rydal Water, and some delicate, intimate close-ups.

The hot tub was calling
Once they’d returned from their photography adventure, they headed back to the hotel to jump straight into that hot tub to warm up. We received a gorgeous card from the couple featuring some of their favourite photos and a lovely message.
