A Small and Intimate Lake District Wedding for 12
In the words of best selling author Carole Matthews herself… “The perfect day, the perfect place…” Here is a peek at their small and intimate Lake District wedding with a select guest list of just 12!
For Better, For Worse… But this was not fiction – This was hers and Lovely Kev’s special day.
A small Lake District wedding for 12

And what a perfect wedding day it was!
Firstly, a glorious day in every way – The sun shone, but that didn’t make the day – The people did. From the very start, there was a heady and happy atmosphere of love, fun and excitement for this small and intimate wedding. A very tightly knit group of close friends, coming together from all over the UK to witness this very special occasion. The air was giddy with excitement, and this set that very special tone that lasted the whole day long!
The day was made all the better by one of the very best registrars in the whole of Cumbria, “Mr Shaun Onions in da house”! He is a very funny and loveable character full of charm, warmth and a stack of well-honed jokes. He has a great knack of putting everyone at ease, adding his special brand of humour to quell any nerves!
The Classic Wedding Ceremony
Carole and Kev opted for a classic, heartfelt ceremony in the spacious Fairfield Ceremony room in the house. With plenty of space we arranged the guests chairs in an informal circle, that helped everyone feel an integral part of this small and intimate wedding.
Sheila read the first reading which was “Time in a bottle” by James Proche
The second reading was beautifully read by Hazel, and it was a lovely rendition of “I wanna be Yours” by John Cooper Clarke.
The Happy Couple made their vows to each other, exchanged rings and signed the register. Their witnesses then signed before the happy couple danced their way around the room, embracing everyone of their gorgeous guests.
The love was heavy in the air, and it created a relaxed and happy moment to treasure!
The happy couple then danced their way outside to the sound of “All You Need is Love” by the Beatles.

The Drinks and Canapes Reception
Now it was time for fun celebrations amid a flurry of English sparkling wine (Nyetimber being their favourite). Canapes were enjoyed whilst having plenty of photographs in the gardens. A lovely stroll to the lakeshore of Rydal Water followed for more photos with the stunning lakeside backdrop.

The fun lasted all day and possibly one of the many highlights being the cheeky Rydal Water geese – Keeping everyone on their toes, as they insisting on biting everyone’s bum. Trying to get everyone to stand still to pose for a pic was hilarious. The geese were a comedy duo in their own right!

Luckily the rain held off… but it’s the Lakes… So you have to have the obligatory umbrella shot!

The Scrumptious Wedding Breakfast
Time for the first peeks at the barn…. Fully decorated with hand made bunting… Yes, it’s one of Carole’s best sellers “For Better For Worse” rather apt don’t you think!
Kevin got in there with a few shots before dinner!

The barn at Cote how is spacious enough for larger weddings but cosy enough for those smaller, more intimate weddings too. Here the table for 12 was set in the centre of the barn in front of the open barn doors, giving a light and airy feel.

Dinner was a delicious three courses prepared in house by our own chef Karen. Starting with freshly smoked salmon, followed by succulent slow roasted local lamb, and finished with a huge slice of thiss wonderful wedding cake.
The whole meal was accompanied by Carole and Kev’s playlist a heady mix of fab 80’s, 90’s and noughties classics, and a bit of Motown peppered with a few oldies and lots of musical theatre – But the highlight singalong of the day was Gary Barlow (A keen favourite of Carole’s) and a “Million Love Songs” was belted out by all in attendance – Yes another title from Carole’s best sellers list I do believe?

The wedding cake, venue flowers, bridal bouquet and groom buttonhole were all supplied by Cote How and this was our intimate 6 Hour all-inclusive wedding package. You can read all about our small mid week wedding packages here

Thank you, Carole and Kevin, for the most special day for us too – We thoroughly enjoyed it! 🙂
And thank you for our fabulous gift!

Wedding Review from the Happy Couple
“We were married here in June and it was the most perfect day. Our wedding was for just 12 people and Caroline and Steve worked so hard to make everything seem effortless. Fantastic venue, amazing food and so much laughter. We organised from a distance so it was great to be able to trust that everything was done so well. Highly recommend. C : ) xx”
