What Adventurous Couples seek in a Lake District ELOPEMENT Wedding
Outdoorsy wedding couples - are you looking for a wedding with more wow?
“Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures”- Lewis Carroll.
Break free from tradition and let your mind run a little wild! Here’s how to plan an amazing ‘outdoorsy’ wedding in the Lake District.Today’s blog is about how to inject more YOU into your Lake District wedding planning. Below, we explore options to ignite your passion and leave you excited about your ‘adventure wedding’.

THE LAKE DISTRICT - A ROMANTIC DESTINATIONS for outdoorsy couples
Firstly, as one of the busiest destinations in the country, the Lakes is one of the most romantic places to visit. Our couples grew up with family holidays to the Lakes or discovered it later in life through adventure activities or romantic getaways. Furthermore, the Lake District is a hugely popular wedding destination in the UK.
Stunning scenery, rugged mountains and serene lakes offer amazing activities. Wild open spaces are perfect for finding inner peace and tranquillity. Consequently, there’s plenty on offer to attract couples from far and wide.

A World Heritage Adventure Playground
Next, as keen outdoor enthusiasts who already love the Lake District, it makes sense to incorporate the great outdoors into your wedding. Make those shared experiences that brought you to the Lakes an integral part of your special day.
With so many outdoor activities to choose from, the list is endless! Here are a few to inspire you…

Do you love walking the fells?
Hiking is the most popular activity in the Lake District. With a variety of levels, from the low fells to the high tops, amid some of the world’s most stunning scenery, it is no wonder millions flock here every year. Perhaps you are bagging the Wainwrights together?
Did you get engaged on your favourite mountain? Do you have a favourite view or picnic spot?
I am constantly amazed at how many couples get engaged in Rydal, either by the lake, in the caves or on top of Loughrigg. Descending the lane, couples stumble upon Cote How on the way home. We’ve witnessed couples get engaged, grab a leaflet on their way home and then come to visit shortly after. Months later, they visit Cote How again to tie the knot and complete the circle!

Maybe you live for Water Sports?
The Lakes is host to the Great North Swim, and a growing trend has emerged, along with paddleboarding.
Never a day goes by that we don’t see swimmers in the lake, and couples with oversized rucksacks for dryrobes and floats, walking through our meadow to our lakeshores. Maybe one of those couples is you?

perhaps a little Rock Climbing?
Meanwhile, adrenaline sports (rock climbing, bouldering and ghyll scrambling) are plentiful. The landscape is an exciting blend of rocky outcrops and rushing rivers. Cote How is surrounded by the River Rothay, Rydal Water and Grasmere to Loughrigg Fell, Nab Scar and the majestic Fairfield Horseshoe. For keen scramblers on the lookout for a challenge, Rydal Cave is a disused quarry that probably yielded the slate to build this house in 1535. The cave has a deep pool with stepping stones and living fish! It’s often the stage for film or TV, and hosts a dramatic amphitheatre for concerts too.

FANCY A HIKE UP A MOUNTAIN WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER?
Our Adventure Elopement wedding package is designed for the hike partway up Loughrigg Fell to the caves, and their incredible scenery. From this vantage point, you can see distant fells at the centre of the Lake District, including Sergeant Man, Silver How and towards Dunmail Raise near Grasmere.
