Loughrigg, Lake District - Winter Walking

Walking Lake District Walks

Walking in the Lake District - Superb!

Fabulous walking country whatever the weather - Spring and Autumn sees some of the best walking of the year. This photograph was taken on the Friday 2nd February taken from a 300m high tarn close to the summit of Loughrigg looking east towards Red Screes.

Cote How - Set in the heart of walker's paradise

There are many interesting and varied walks which can be accessed directly from Cote How including the famous Fairfield Horseshoe, Loughrigg Fell, the lakes of Grasmere and Rydal Water, taking in the Coffin trail and Rydal Cave.
We can prvide you with many varied walks with maps and walk plans so please let us know your abilities and what kind of walking you would like and we can advise on the most suitable routes for you.

Rydal Water and Grasmere - 6 miles (10km)

A great introductory walk to local area - I recommend this walk to new visitors to Cote How as it is fairly gentle and takes in lots of stunning views and wildlife. It also helps you to get your bearings around the area - figure out Rydal, Loughrigg, Grasmere, the shops and churches, places of interest. It takes in the famous "Coffin Route" from Rydal to Grasmere and passes by Rydal Mount and Dove Cottage - Both homes of William Wordsworth.

Rydal and Loughrigg Terrace
Both of the routes start and finish at Rydal Water car park and follow the same directions until you reach Rydal Caves. Once you have finished exploring the caves the little ones can complete the shorter green route and older ones can carry on along the blue route for another 1.2km before meeting up back at the car park
